Nathan Cahill



Nathan has 20 years of experience in sales and use tax. His career began in Public Accounting, where he spent nearly a decade in the Big Four and a Top 10 firm splitting his time between state income-franchise tax and sales and use tax. He transitioned into industry where he spent over a decade focused on sales tax within the energy industry, specifically oil and gas exploration & production and oilfield services. 


Immediately prior to joining BDO, Nathan was a Sales and Use Tax Director at a boutique firm that specialized in local taxes related to energy companies in California, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming.

Nathan has vast experience in the oil and gas tax arena and is known for his expertise in tax controversy, successfully defending against millions in proposed assessments. He has successfully recovered millions for his clients through reverse audits. Nathan has expansive experience providing taxability research, due diligence reviews, use tax accrual analysis, and tax process reviews. 


In addition to the oil and gas he has extensive experience in the construction and manufacturing industries.

Nathan recently joined BDO as a Managing Director in the Southwest State and Local Tax practice primarily servicing the Oklahoma market.
