John LaBorde is a Managing Director at Moss Adams LLP. With over 30 years of experience in taxation, John has worked in industry and public accounting, focused on assisting clients in the energy industry. His energy industry experience covers a broad range including exploration & production, energy services, downstream energy, midstream and interstate pipelines, power generation including renewable energy, electricity distribution and energy trading.
John’s experience in taxation includes:
Researching and providing resolutions for a wide range of state and local tax issues
Identifying and implementing state and local tax minimization strategies, including credits & incentives, sales/use taxes, state income/franchise taxes and property taxes
Obtaining state tax refunds for clients based on industry specific issues
Obtaining private letter rulings for sales/use taxes and state income/franchise taxes
Assisting clients with mergers and acquisitions
Before joining Moss Adams LLP, John was the managing director at Andersen Tax. Prior to joining Andersen Tax John was a Partner in the State and Local Tax practice at Grant Thornton where he led the energy industry segment of the overall tax practice. Prior to Grant Thornton, John worked for two other international accounting firms and three publicly traded companies.
John has been a speaker for various organizations including the Tax Executives Institute (TEI), the Texas Society of CPAs, Council on State Taxation (COST) and The Greater Houston Partnership. He is also the co-author of the CCH, Inc. publication Practice Guide to the Texas Margin Tax.
